I have been to this resort one time before and I liked it very much. However, on my second visit I didn't feel as comfortable as I did the first time. I know it is a family resort, but there were way too many screaming children running around the beach and pool areas, disturbing one's relaxation. Overall the resort is great, however I would like to see some food variations. It seems as though they serve almost the same dishes every night.

Punta Serena is located about a 50 minute cab ride from Manzanillo airport (ZLO). The cab ride will cost approximately 700 pesos. ($65-70). The last 10 minutes of the cab ride are devoted to the resort's seemingly endless driveway which, like the grounds of the resort itself, is guarded and patrolled by security staff providing a feeling of safety, seclusion and security. Guests are greeted on arrival with a rum cocktail, a welcome tour, and description of the resort's services by the attentive and cheerful hotel staff. The resort consists of of a number of small "casitas" or villas perched on a bluff that straddles two beaches. The beach to the north is shared with the Blue Bay family resort, that to the south is reserved for the Punta Serena guests exclusively. The resort's restaurant, bar and pool area are situated at the top of the bluff and provide commanding views of the bay below. There is a full service spa, an exercise room, with shower, steam-room sauna and a jacuzzi tub, a game room with a pool table, and a free-form infinity pool that is surrounded by cabanas and lounge chairs. Two additional jacuzzi tubs are set into the cliffs just below the pool area, offering outstanding views and a dramatic backdrop. All common areas are serviced by the resorts attentive staff. The resorts private beach, accessed by a series of walkways and steps, is remarkably secluded and tranquil. The intensely fine grey-brown sand is encompassed by the cliffs leading up to the resort on one side, and a more remote area of dunes on the other. The beach's gentle slope allows one to wander far out before dropping off, but, at the same time, it's orientation allows for moderate waves, perfect for body surfing. At the head of the beach are a series of thatch-shaded, upholstered king-bed sized cabanas and a number of shaded lounge chairs. There were always plenty of spaces available on the busy New Years weekend. Hotel staff stock a cooler of beers, water and soda for beach guests and take/deliver orders for afternoon snacks served beachside. The pool area and the resort beach are "clothing optional" so some nudity is to be expected. Guests are encouraged to act with decorum and be respectful. The central restaurant serves mostly continental fare, somewhat of a disappointment if you are looking for an extensive menu of authentic Mexican cuisine. But the quality of the food is generally high and the dinner menu changes regularly. As this is an all-inclusive resort the serviceable wines are not top-shelf but the drinks are generous and plentiful. The accommodations are modest but functional. Air conditioning, in-room safes, and balconies are provided for all rooms. The best views are from room 5B which overlooks the resort beach. Three double rooms are organized around a spacious common living area in each of the casitas. The common areas have large windows and comfortable sofas and chairs, yet are rarely used. The shared partnership with Blue Bay Resort on the north side of the Punta Serena bluff offers those who seek some variety the chance to mingle with a more family-oriented clientele. In Punta Serena the guests were 75% Mexican (adults only) at Blue Bay the clientele is evidently exclusively Mexican. Blue Bay has a number of pools, an immense and pristine beach, a restaurant offering perhaps a wider variety of fare and a disco tech for those interested in more active evening entertainment than that found at Punta Serena. All services at Blue Bay are available to guests at Punta Serena. In general, this is an exceptional choice for couples seeking seclusion and the no-hassle environment of an all-inclusive resort. There is an intimacy to Punta Serena such that it never feels crowed and the staff is friendly and attentive. For those with a few good books to read and no agenda other than lying on a beach for a few days, it is worth consideration.
