The beaches are just as beautiful and serene as they look in the pictures. The staff are very helpful and the rooms are cool and comfortable. But be prepared to feel a little like a prisoner on the resort unless you have unlimited funds to get around. Although they claim to have 4 restaurants on the resort at any given time no more than 2 are open (often it's just one). The food prices are OUTRAGEOUS and the food's only okay -- not worth it. We got tired of eating the same overpriced meals every day. If you want to leave the resort you can rent a jeep at $100 a day or take cab ($10 to town for one person roundtrip). So as a couple we had to add $20 for each meal in town and you need to know where you are going before you head off because walking around town is difficult and dangerous with few sidewalks. If the hotel offered a shuttle once or twice a day off the resort it would be a huge improvement. Also watch out for their ferry -- if you're trying to save a few dollars a ferry from town is $6 a person vs. the $55 per person for the resort's ferry. No phones in the rooms mean a walk anytime you need something. That said it is a quiet and relaxing vacation.

They were unable to give us the room that we requested for one out of the three nights of our reservation. They just didn't say sorry, so sad, too bad. They actually credited us for that one night. I couldn't believe it. Imagine that. A resort with integrity!!! It is only rated with 3 stars, but it is a 5 star resort to us. Very accommodating and clean, which is important to me. We read that we should ask for unit 1,2,3; upper level units, the gold rooms. They were beautiful! Also close to town. Don't need a car to get around.

This new resort has terrific rooms with great views of the water and the boats in the bay. Cruz Bay is the area to stay in St. John. The location for Grande Bay Resort is ideal! We walked to every dinner except one. All were within a 5 minute walk....Morgan's Mango, Rhumb Lines, Castaways, ZoZo's, Cactus on the Blue. Asolare was the only dinner we drove to. The beaches are a quick, easy drive. Ten minutes to Hawksnest, 15 minutes to Trunk Bay, 20 minutes to Maho Bay and Francis Bay. The staff at Grande Bay is incredibly friendly and very helpful. It's a small enough resort that you deal with the same 6-8 people for everything. Their service simply blows away the service we have (or haven't) received at many other resorts throughout the Caribbean. We wil return to St. John and we will certainly stay at Grande Bay Resort.
