This is a beautiful resort! Everything you could want (and more than you can do) all on site. Staff are friendly and very attentive, restaurants are excellent, beach is beautiful, pool is awesome. The rooms are not super fancy but are very nice and the Sleep Number bed is great. Just a quick drive to Grand Case, Marigot, or Orient Beach. You can rent a car right on site. We would stay here again every time.

My husband and I honeymooned on St. Martin for two weeks during the off-season, and we could not have been happier with our stay at the Marquis. We had an incredible view of Anse Marcel, and it was just a short hike down to the most beautiful beach on St. Martin. We had the delicious breakfast of fresh-baked breads, fresh fruit, fresh-squeezed orange juice and coffee brought to our room every morning, not only because the resort staff is happy to accommodate, but because we simply couldn't get enough of that view! The staff was also more than happy to make restaurant recommendations for us, as well as organize daily car-rentals and excursions. They took such great care of us, and we will certainly return to the Marquis for future anniversary celebrations. A lovely, lovely place.

Rooms and halls were very clean. Lots of towels. We ate only one meal at the hotel because we were not 'all inclusive'. Nice large hot tub that probably would hold a dozen people easily. Fun to watch the tour boats come in. Rent a car to tour the island (we paid $30 per day to rent from local company). Walk over to the neighbouring Divi Resort and out to the point with the old fort (about 20 minutes). Great views of Philipsburg. Go to Cheries Cafe at the Maho Beach Sonesta and have dinner and watch the cabaret type show that starts at 8:00pm 6 nights a week. It is a 10 minute walk into Philipsburg from the Great Bay hotel. Don't plan on walking back to hotel after 11:00pm. Take a a cab.

We just returned from a 10 night stay in St. Maarten. The first 2 nights were at Captain Oliver's Resort. The resort is away from all city life, but we knew that. It has a restaurant and bar on site and a few other places within walking distance. It is a bit difficult to find and extremely hilly in this area. You must have a car to get around. Upon check in, we were taken to our room by the front desk person who brought a can of room freshener with her. The room had a nice marina view but smelled extemely bad. We brought our luggage in and went for a walk around the marina. When returning, we passed through the lobby and were told we needed to move to another room because the one they gave us was already promised to someone else the next day. We obliged since we hadn't unpacked but were surprised. We were given a room that did not face the marina this time however it did smell much better and was cleaner except for the black mold on the ceiling. The resort staff were extremely nice and the restaurant/bar had delicious food.

The Sonesta was definelty a great resort to stay at. The service was fantastic, the grounds were kept in great shape, the food was great, the people were friendly and very helpful. We went during the low season so the hotel was not packed. It was really nice feeling like we had the run of the resort. We were very satisifed with the service and food. The staff was great with everything. They were even great with helping us plan out our days and activities. There are quite a few activities and places to visit. One of our days there, we were able to rent an open jeep for the day in the resort lobby and travled around the whole island visiting other beaches and markets. IT was nice stepping off the resort and checking out other areas of the island. Also, if you do this trip, you really need to go with the All Inclusive package. It is defiently worth it, between the food and drinks. Also, the resort provided each of us with a $10 voucher for the Casino everynight. We went everynight to the Casino which was right across the street. One word of caution is if you go to any of the public beaches, like Mullet Beach, make sure you do not take any valuables with you and watch your bags. One guy distracted us while another took our bag but luckily another tourist saw the guy hide the bag and we were able to get it back with everything in it. Besides this one stupid event the entire trip was fantastic.

La Plantation was fine for a 3-star resort, but the mattress was too firm and not padded, so the springs were hard to ignore. Included breakfast, and choice of 5 beach huts for umbrellas and lounge chairs, are good bonuses.

Overall, the rooms were good. It doesn't have all the features of a big American hotel chain, but for a small island resort, everything was okay. Our room had a king bed and a pull out bed that doubled as a couch. Secret tip: the lagoon view was just as good as the ocean view.

The resort casino had a pitboss employed that was prejudice against Americans and said some extremely offensive things to me. I was very upset!
