I am a front desk manager of a resort in Ormond Beach, Florida. I typically do not go on vacations and stay in hotels/resorts because I tend to sabotage my experience with finickiness. I had a great time. Check-in was easy and flawless, as was checkout. I was never disturbed during my stay. The room was very clean. While some of the room was a bit dated, it did not affect the ambiance or the cleanliness of the unit. There were only two things I found issue with- When I made my reservation with expedia, I was told I had a unit with the balcony over looking the pool. When I arrived to the room, if I strained my neck, I could get a sliver of pool view. My view was of the lake, while pretty was not what I expected. My second complaint that in the evening I went to get 2 pool towels and I was told where they were. When I explained there were not any left, I was told they did not have anymore with no alternative given on what else they could do. Overall, I enjoyed my stay and will be coming back on the very first chance I get.

Great place to stay for families planning to visit Universal or Wet n Wild. Check-in was easy, no timeshare pressure...but, some problems would arise. First of all, only one elevator was working....this was a 20 floor hotel! Next, as we checked in our room, I notice the air wasn't cooling. I called the front desk and the maintenance guy explained that in an unoccupied room the air was in efficiency mode. So, we proceeded to unpack ALL our luggage and ALL our groceries for the week. We had a horrible night, it was hot in the room. I called the front desk that morning before we left for the parks to notify the staff we still had a problem with the air. Upon our return, room still hot and maintenance had left a card stating they had fixed the air. Once again, I called the front desk....this time with a little less patience and tolerance of the situation. The staff quickly offered us another room. We moved from the 10th floor to the 7th floor... had a wonderful view of Wet n Wild Water Park and even a view of the Universal Studios nightly fireworks. The rest of my stay here was wonderful. The staff was very low key, which I like. They were only available when called. The rooms are exactly as pictured, but you either get a view of the parking lot or the waterpark & Universal Studios. We didn't use the pool or restaurant, but I did view them. They were clean and everything seem to be in order. Overall, my stay at Westgate Resort was wonderful.

I must say that before going on this trip to I was poised to be underwhelmed. All those reviewers who reported Universal as dirty, run by rude people, and just not chocking up to Disney, had me thinking my vacation was sure to be a disaster. Boy was I wrong. The Portofino Bay Hotel was a little slice of Italy. I cant say enough good things about Universal and the PBH. Everyone we encountered was happy to help us, from the concierge and bell men, to the café wait staffs, the bartenders, the groundskeepers, the room maids. I felt pampered and appreciated every minute of my week-long stay. The grounds are incredible and it couldn't be easier taking the water taxi to City Walk. My kids (4 & 10) loved the parks, with US the favorite. We went to both parks twice and had the time of our lives. The people there are nice, friendly and helpful, not at all rude. Worth its weight in gold is the Express Pass you get as a guest of a Univeral Resort. It allows you to bypass the lines at the rides. My daughter and I rode The Mummy three times in a row within 20 minutes. I found both parks to be as clean as any other amusement park I've ever been to, if not a little cleaner. The food was fantastic, even at the parks (try Finnegans in NY!). But be prepared, meals aint cheap, especially at the BPH. All in all, staying at a Universal resort was the best family vacation we've ever had (and we've done Disney, which is nothing to sneeze at). We can't wait to go back! Bravo!

We stayed here for the convenience of being inside the park, and that (only that) made it worthwhile. Otherwise, our experience was mostly annoying. It is not particularly kid friendly, contrary to the marketing (one restaurant has a kids corner full of broken dirty toys where the kids cannot even eat), and is way too loud for most small kids and thinking adults (not a quiet spot anywhere). The clientele are mostly adults here, and everyone seemed a little surprised to actually see kids here. The hotel and rooms are typical and utterly charmless--like a fancy Holiday Inn. The room was grubby (lots of debris in carpets and tub) and very thin walled (we got to know our neighbors too well). There is no fridge in the room, and we were charged extra to rent a TINY fridge & microwave. The TV is low quality and grainy, and the TV/media system is totally slow and with a suckola selection of channels -- and you have to pay for most all channels, even Discovery Channel--haha. And the food in the hotel is almost all burgers and fries, which gets very depressing if you stay for a few days. Next time, if we stay in the park at all, we'd stay at the Royal Pacific. It is beautiful, QUIET, and relaxing in the grand Asian resort style, and much more kid friendly: the restaurant has a large eating room just for kids and the staff all came to say hi and play with the kids, and the pool here has the sandy "beach" the kids love so much.

Our stay at Royal Pacific was overall a good experience. I was a little bit dissapointed in the room. You could tell that parts of the room had taken some abuse which is expected with the number of people the hotel accomodates. Parts of the wall needed some repainting where there were bad scuff marks. The decor was very nice, but the rooms were pretty small compared to other resorts where we have stayed at Disney. I expected a little bit more for what we had payed for an on site resort. However, the customer service was great, and anyone we came in contact with was very friendly. Staying at the resort was completely worth it for the Express Pass entrance into all of the rides at Universal and Islands of Adventure. That was Great!!! I would recommend that to anyone. Like I said, the rooms left a little to be desired but it was very comfortable and our stay was an overall good experience. We will probably try a different on site resort next time, just for a change.
